Construction Roofing

For non-insurance related installations we have a tier of set pricing for different styles of roofs and materials. Along with homeowners, we work hand-in-hand with builders to facilitate new construction roofing for developments.

Construction roofing contractor in San Antonio TXRoofing construction is very different than simply repairing or replacing shingles or tile. Construction means building the entire roof. That includes everything from the sheathing to the flashing. This is the process of building the roof from scratch.

Actual roofing construction is needed when building a new home that has never had a roof or if the old roof has been damaged beyond repair (due to natural disasters such as tornadoes). Whichever the case may be, it is crucial that your property’s roof is constructed with the utmost care and precision. Making sure that your roofing system functions flawlessly will help your roof perform at its best for a very long time.

Constructing a Roof

The Framing:

The first step of construction would be the framing. Framing is just what it sounds like. It’s the frame in which the rest of the roof will be built upon. This is the step in which the pitch of the roof will be determined.

The Pitch:

There is so much that the pitch of your roof determines when it comes to your property. The first obvious factor is your properties appearance. However, they also determine what roofing material will be suitable for your property. Certain roofing materials are not compatible with low slopes and can actually put your roofing system at risk. So when it comes to the pitch of your roof you will want to decide on your roofing material beforehand.

The Trusses:

Framing involves building the trusses. Trusses are what provide support for your roof and keep your roof from falling down. They can support a large amount of weight, which is important because they will need to support the full weight of the materials used during and after construction.

The Sheathing:

Next comes the sheathing. The sheathing is a plywood material that is fixed onto the framing that forms the base of the roof. In warmer climates such as here in Texas sheathing is commonly made with aluminum on one side to help reduce heat on the roof.

The Drip Edge:

It is important to install the drip edge as well. The drip edge is a piece of metal that hangs over the edge of the roof and is designed to further protect the sheathing from rain and water damage.

The Underlayment:

Then comes the underlayment which is simply a protective layer over the sheathing. Also known as felt paper or tar paper, roofing underlayment is another barrier of protection from the outside elements.

Nowadays, typically synthetic underlayment is used because it is less likely to deteriorate and is considered more durable. Up until about 15 to 20 years ago tar paper was commonly used but started to fall in popularity due to synthetic underlayment being more durable.

Roofing Material:

Then comes the actual roofing material. Depending on the climate, aesthetics, and the pitch of the roof, choosing the roofing material is usually the more exciting part of the roofing build.
